HaloAccount Deletion

How to delete your Halo account

You can request deletion of your Halo account at any time, directly from inside the app. This page explains how to make the request, what data is permanently deleted, and which records we are required to keep for regulatory reasons.

HaloStep by step

Request deletion from inside the app

The in-app flow is the fastest and most secure way to close your account. It takes about a minute.

  1. 1

    Open the Halo app

Sign in with your usual credentials on the device where the account was created.

  2. 2

    Go to Account → Settings

Tap your profile picture in the top-right of the home screen to open your Account, then choose Settings.

  3. 3

    Tap “Delete account”

You'll be asked to confirm your identity with your PIN or biometrics, then to confirm the deletion request.

  4. 4

We'll process it within 30 days

You'll receive an email confirmation once your request has been logged, and a final email once deletion has completed.

Can't access the app?

If you've lost access to your device or can't sign in, you can request deletion by email. Include your registered full name and the email or phone number on your account so we can verify your identity before proceeding.

For your safety, we will not process deletion requests sent via social media or unverified channels.

What is deleted

The following information is permanently deleted from our active systems within 30 days of your request being verified.

  • App preferences and settings
  • Saved beneficiaries and recipient lists
  • Push-notification and marketing-communication preferences

What we are required to keep

As a regulated financial institution, Halo Microfinance Bank Ltd is legally required to retain certain records even after your account is closed.

  • KYC and identity verification records

The Central Bank of Nigeria requires regulated banks to retain customer identification records for at least five years after account closure (BOFIA, CBN AML/CFT Regulations).

  • Transaction history and account statements

Banking regulators and the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit require that transaction records be retained for at least five years for anti-money-laundering and audit purposes.

  • Information needed to resolve disputes or chargebacks

If you have an unresolved dispute, complaint, or chargeback when you request deletion, we retain the relevant records until the matter is fully resolved.

  • Tax and accounting records

Required by the Federal Inland Revenue Service and applicable accounting standards.

Processing time

Within 30 days

From the date we verify your request. You will receive email confirmation when it is complete.

App access

Immediately revoked

You will be signed out across all devices as soon as your request is logged.

Before you delete

Withdraw your funds

Transfer any remaining balance out of your account before requesting deletion. We cannot process a deletion request while a positive balance is held.
